Most of Chicken for the Junk Food Injected Antibiotics

Almost everyone likes junk food, especially fried chicken is crispy and big. But communities should begin to limit themselves and be careful, because the chickens are sold junk food can contain antibiotics.

"The food junk food such as chicken were given antibiotics as growth promotenya," said Professor Iwan Dwi Prahasto the press conference seminar 'Antimicrobial Resistance Containment and Prevention,' at Balai Kartini, Jakarta, Thursday (07/04/2011).

Prof. Iwan said that about 20-25 percent, antibiotics are used for animals such as chickens that serves as a growth promotenya and antibiotics are also present in chicken eggs. Though antibiotics are one type of drug used to combat diseases caused by bacteria.

"So if someone eating chicken so he unknowingly consume antibiotics for free. Yet the use of antibiotics to animals is not relevant," said Professor Iwan who is Professor of Pharmacology FK UGM.

Antibiotics are not only harmful to the animals but also in people who eat meat or eggs of livestock fed with antibiotics. This condition can lead to resistance to antibiotics, because the more often a person exposed to an antibiotic it will be the sooner the occurrence of resistance.

"If this is not required then the antibiotic will interfere with the normal bacteria in the human body and can cause the good bacteria is transformed into bacteria that cause disease, so the person becomes easy to get sick," he said.

Every time someone taking antibiotics, the sensitive bacteria will be killed and that resistant bacteria will continue to live, grow and reproduce. The use of antibiotics repeatedly and incorrectly are the main cause of increase in the number bekteri resistant to antibiotics.

Inappropriate use of antibiotics can lead to immunity to germs, so will need an antibiotic one level above that of course has the effect of higher toxicity.

In Europe, antibiotic use has been banned for additional fodder for many years and a similar ban will be implemented in South Korea next year.
