A study conducted on 200 thousand European women showed that doing housework is more likely to protect women from breast cancer than an intensive fitness activities.

The results of this study have been published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers & Prevention.

This research was funded by Cancer Research UK and led by Petra Lahmann of the Department of Epidemiology, Germany Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbrucke, in Nuthetal, Germany and is a team of international researchers.

Petra Lahmann and colleagues used data on more than 200,000 premenopausal women and postmenopausal women aged between 20-80 years from nine European countries.

These researchers use statistical regression model that works is equivalent to the level of metabolic various forms of exercise that has done a woman, so that researchers can compare the value of physical activity against a form of exercise.

Researchers are also taking into account demographic, social and health factors such as age, age at first menstruation, body mass index, education, geographic location, alcohol consumption, age of first pregnancy, oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy.

Physical activity women are classified into three groups, namely recreation, household activities and professional work. The total amount of physical activity is also taken into account. This research continued until 6.4 years and found 3423 invasive breast cancers occur in groups.

Results showed that total physical activity reduces breast cancer risk only in postmenopausal women.

But perhaps more surprising, as quoted by Medicalnewstoday, Thursday (08/05/2010), domestic work was to reduce the risk of both premenopausal breast cancer (19 percent) and postmenopausal women (29 percent).

The participants spent an average of 16-17 hours per week to do tuga-job households, such as washing, cooking and cleaning house.

While this study found no significant relationship between breast cancer risk reduction with recreational activities or physical activity associated with the job.

5 Things that No Right of Antioxidants

far, people know that antoksidan is a substance which is very useful to eliminate free radicals from the body. But there are 5 myths are wrong about this antioxidant.

"Antioxidants have good benefits for health and fights the bad things in the body. So many people are trying to consume in large portions," says Marion Nestle, PhD, MPH, a nutrition and public health experts from New York University, as quoted from Menshealth, Friday (8/6/2010).

This of course makes a person do not hesitate to eat them. But in order to obtain maximum results, the community must know that there are myths about these antioxidants, namely:

1. The myth of free radicals must be destroyed
Although free radicals are always attributed as the cause of several serious diseases, but not necessarily free radicals is as bad as people think. This molecule is a byproduct of the basic metabolic process known as oxidation.

Free radicals can be useful, for example, immune cells will shoot into free radicals to attack and kill bacteria that infect the body. But if the number of new lots can be dangerous free radicals, therefore one must know whether an antioxidant that has been sufficient or not.

The thing to do is try to keep smoking and make healthy lifestyle by eating at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.

2. Myth all the antioxidants work in the same way
Not all antioxidants work in the same way, because some antioxidants can excel in certain combat free radicals while other effective antioxidants for different free radicals. Therefore we need antioxidants from various sources in order to provide an effective defense system and can protect the body.

The thing to do is perform the variety of food especially known for its antioxidant content and certain vitamins.

3. Myth all the antioxidants come from fruits and vegetables
Some nuts, seeds and other vegetables are known to have antioxidant that much, because the plants produce antioxidants to fight predators and UV rays. But the real meat, dairy products and eggs also contain some antioxidants, although not as many plants.

Things you can do is to eat whole grains, nuts and seeds on a regular basis and equipped with animal products. Because the animals that eat plants also proved to contain antioxidants.

4. Myth-fortified foods more healthful antioxidants
Foods that have been fortified does contain antioxidants, but the numbers are small and probably only one or two types of antioxidants alone. Therefore, foods that naturally contain antioxidants will definitely have more healthful, but it needs variety or diversity of food.

Things you can do is try to eat a vegetable that is known to be rich in antioxidants. Also watch carefully the substance contained in each food package.

5. Myth if exercising and taking supplements, it will be human superfit
Exercising indeed cause more oxidation process that can increase the amount of free radicals. But if someone is eating large amounts of antioxidant supplements after exercise, then it could menggangggu natural response that has been done by the body. In addition, supplements are consumed in excess can deplete the body's energy and make seseoang loss of muscle strength.

This can be done is best to get antioxidants from food rather than supplements, as well as antioxidants from supplements sometimes are not always able to function better.

Actually how antioxidants work in the body?

1. When the molecule loses an electron, it will be a reactive free radical with one unpaired electron.
2. These free radicals will try to steal electrons from molecules closest to get back into balance.
3. This of course could be a chain reaction that can cause damage to cell components including DNA. It also can affect a person's immune system becomes weaker.
4. But if someone gets antoksidan, the antioxidant molecule provides one electron to neutralize free radicals.
5. But this is different antioxidants with free radicals, because he was able to maintain its stability even after donating an electron.

Listen Music while Learning is Not Good for Brain

Not a few people who like to learn while listening to music, watch television or listen to the radio. But actually learn while listening to music is not good for the brain. Why?

Recent research shows that the habit of students who like to listen to music when studying adverse impact on the brain.

Studying the test material while listening to music is not appropriate, because the background music can affect the brain's ability to perform tasks related to memory, which in turn also affects the concentration.

The study, published in the journal Applied Cognitive Psychology, conducted by asking participants to remember the eight data in sequence. This research was conducted in five different conditions, namely a peaceful environment, the preferred music is played, the music is not preferred, the data is not stable (random order) and the data is stable.

As a result, the ability of participants to remember a bad time listening to the music, good music is liked or disliked, as well as conducted mengacakan data. While the best memories happened when he was in a quiet environment with a fixed or stable data.

"The inability of the participants remember when listening to music and experiencing random data occurs because of variations in the acoustic environment. It is destroying the ability to remember the sequence data and repetition," said Nick Perham, researcher and lecturer at the School of Psychology, University of Wales Institute in Cardiff, as reported from Health24, Friday (8/6/2010).

Perham explained that to remember the data is also needed the ability to maintain control of information in short term memory is through repetition.

But it will not occur when the learning environment or a place to remember the experience variations of acoustic or sound changes, such as the background music.

"When you study with a view to considering, then seek a peaceful environment," Perham recommendation.

However, other studies show that listening to certain sounds such as lecture materials during sleep can actually improve memory. In fact, to take advantage of these findings, has now produced a pillow that comes with speakers so people can sleep while listening to music or lecture material.

Expired Food Products Can Still Eat?

Most people are reluctant to eat certain food products that have passed expiration dates. Though some countries are 2 types of expiration dates, and the best before date expired. What's the difference?

Rules on this vary in each country, but on the set is the distribution and sales. That is, products that have passed the expiration date at all should not be distributed and sold.

While the difference between the two terms are located at the level of safety for consumption. Although there is no guarantee from the manufacturer or distributor, consumers still can decide for themselves whether or not the product is used.

Quoted from Betterhealth, Monday (09/08/2010), the term best before showing the limits of a product are guaranteed quality. The quality and nutritional content would decrease after that date passed, but not necessarily harmful to health as long as the packaging is intact.

To stay could be used, the product must be stored in a certain way according to the instructions included. For example, should be stored in a cool, dry or protected from direct sunlight.

Because it is not guaranteed by the manufacturer, assessment is only based on common sense or the looks from the outside. For example, if moldy or experience change in taste and color, then the product should not be consumed.

Meanwhile, the term expired use-by date or be used for products that cause direct health risks when it passed the date indicated. Usually imprinted on the products that are unstable or easily damaged in the long-term storage, for example meat and some types of cheese.

Expired use-by date and is the boundary that is relatively more assertive than the best before. With health and safety reasons, do not ever eat food products that have passed the limit expired or used-by date.

For more safe anymore, do not buy products that have passed their expiration date. Applicable regulations prohibit anyone trade food that has expired, either expressed or expired with a best before date.

Lazy Log is One of Many Disease Categories

People who are lazy or unwilling to perform physical activities categorized as a person who has the disease in its own right. Although a lot of money for treatment, the disease is incurable.

Dr Richard Weiller and Dr Emmanuel Stamatakis include lazy as a disease because they see a strong relationship between poor health in people lazy. The results are reported in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

"We see a significant association with mortality (death rate) and morbidity (unhealthy conditions). Therefore, we propose that a lazy person is likely to be considered for recognition as a person who has the disease in its own right," said the researcher, as quoted from Telegraph, Tuesday (10/08/2010).

Dr. Richard Weiller, as sport and exercise specialist at Imperial College Healthcare said that the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified obesity as a disease. Obesity happens because people do not do exercise or physical activity is enough.

"Money is used to treat the symptoms due to physical inactivity such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension) or heart disease. But do not treat the root, which is forcing people to not be lazy," he said.

In May Dr Weiller show evidence that physical inactivity is not only a place of fat deposition, but would be a cause of disease.

Therefore, Dr Wieller adding society must place or promote health and treat disease, one way is to perform physical activity.

In a recent study conducted by Dr. Weiller found only 1 in 20 people who exercise in accordance with the recommended amount of time. But until now there is still no coordinated plan to address this problem.

"Everyone needs to see the facts that exist and are responsible for their own health," says Professor Steve Field, chairman of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
