Listen Music while Learning is Not Good for Brain

Not a few people who like to learn while listening to music, watch television or listen to the radio. But actually learn while listening to music is not good for the brain. Why?

Recent research shows that the habit of students who like to listen to music when studying adverse impact on the brain.

Studying the test material while listening to music is not appropriate, because the background music can affect the brain's ability to perform tasks related to memory, which in turn also affects the concentration.

The study, published in the journal Applied Cognitive Psychology, conducted by asking participants to remember the eight data in sequence. This research was conducted in five different conditions, namely a peaceful environment, the preferred music is played, the music is not preferred, the data is not stable (random order) and the data is stable.

As a result, the ability of participants to remember a bad time listening to the music, good music is liked or disliked, as well as conducted mengacakan data. While the best memories happened when he was in a quiet environment with a fixed or stable data.

"The inability of the participants remember when listening to music and experiencing random data occurs because of variations in the acoustic environment. It is destroying the ability to remember the sequence data and repetition," said Nick Perham, researcher and lecturer at the School of Psychology, University of Wales Institute in Cardiff, as reported from Health24, Friday (8/6/2010).

Perham explained that to remember the data is also needed the ability to maintain control of information in short term memory is through repetition.

But it will not occur when the learning environment or a place to remember the experience variations of acoustic or sound changes, such as the background music.

"When you study with a view to considering, then seek a peaceful environment," Perham recommendation.

However, other studies show that listening to certain sounds such as lecture materials during sleep can actually improve memory. In fact, to take advantage of these findings, has now produced a pillow that comes with speakers so people can sleep while listening to music or lecture material.
