A study conducted by researchers at San Francisco State University showed that looking back good memories of the past can help you today is going well.
Conversely, given the bad memories can make people become more neurotic (nervous disorders), moody, introverted and affect overall life satisfaction.
The researchers advise people to focus on the happy moments and trying to 'reframe' the moments that are less fun to take something more positive.
In the study, researchers studied personality traits in 750 participants through a series of tests. The result, researchers found that noltalgia play a key role in overall life satisfaction.
Remembering the good moments in life can make people feel less regret, so having a more open outlook on life and positive life.
"People who see past the red glasses (good memories) to be happier than those who focus on negative experiences and regrets," said Professor Ryan Howel from San Francisco State University, as reported by Dailymail, Thursday (05/05/2011).
The study, published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences see how each participant to rank the 'big five personality traits'.
Personality traits that are open or filled with secrets, an extrovert or introvert, I agree something (agreeable), precision (conscientious) and neurotic nature.
"We found that people who are extroverts happier with their lives because they tend to positive outlook on the nostalgia of the past," explained Professor Howel.
According to him, the results of this study could be good news, because although it may be difficult to change one's personality, but still could change their views over time (past, present and future) so as to increase happiness.
